You may be a regular visitor of Discussion forums, but never even came to know that it is a forum. Search Engines often take you to discussion forums to give you your results. I am not talking about everyone, but a few specific ones. I have seen a lot of net surfers who don’t know what is a forum, so this is a guide for them.
Firstly, what is a forum? Actually, even I don’t know any particular defination for a forum, :D anyway, literally it means any place for discussion debating, opportunity, meeting etc. Now, the online forums are just that. Today there are forums on every subject. You can easily find a forum which interests you and take part in discussions therein. They are very easy to use and you always have moderators and administrator to help you. I will explain them later. If the topic that interests you is technology then the WWW is flooded up with such forums. I have listed some in the “You Should Visit” list.
For whom is a forum?? A forum is for anyone, I would say, who can spare some free time to be online and wants to get or share some knowledge on any topic of his interest.
What to do on a forum?? A forum is for discussion of topics of different types. If you can, you should try to start some discussion, asking some question or giving some information to others. I have seen some people going to forums and reading posts but never posting, not even replying thinking that they are not good posters. Actually, as per me, NO ONE IS A BAD POSTER. They only don’t know how to post. So here I write some posting tips for all on my own experience.
Firstly, WHAT TO POST – You may post anything. Here by anything I really mean anything which is accepted by the rules of posting. I mean avoiding any vulgar content. Let me explain with some examples. As far as I know I have seen that we always get something new on the web while surfing. Just share your knowledge with others. SHARING OF KNOWLEDGE DOESNOT DECREASE IT BUT INCREASES IT. Like suppose you come across a great website, tell everyone about it. Don’t feel inferior, what you know, may not be known by others. Or if you come across anything new, just post it. (It may even be a joke or anything else, there are different forums for not only Technology but everything viz. jokes, general discussion etc).
One more important thing that can be posted is what you think. I mean we usually visit threads. When you read them, what is the first thing that comes to your mind, just post it, dude. It might be of some help. I mean you should post your opinion on everything (as far as possible)
Secondly, HOW TO POST – Go!! just write something about it, write a bit big article (if possible) so that it may be published as a REVIEW. Hey, don’t worry, you don’t need to be a review writer, remember that all your posts are moderated especially REVIEWS.. DON’T FEEL ASHAMED JUST POST IT.
Thirdly, WANT SOME POSTING HELP?? – Don’t forget that every forum a very good team of moderators and there are also some senior members who are always ready to help you. Just PM them or contact them at their yahoo id, which is always there. THERE IS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF, JUST POST IT, ANY MISTAKES WILL BE CORRECTED. DON’T WORRY.
Something else about a forum- A forum is run by many volunteers who don’t get anything for their work (except for some). The owner is called an administrator. And the most powerful members who have the right to edit and delete your posts are called moderators. Never fight with a moderator or administrator; they may even ban you from the forum. Moderators are the helpers of the administrator. They can be contacted easily for any help.
